Ashley Gregory: What is your professional occupation?
Denise Griffin: What I do at the city hall, is that I 'm the city
clerk.
AG: How and when
did you decide that you wanted to become a city clerk?
DG: Well, I grew
up in Northwoods, and I always knew that I would like to work here.
One day I saw an ad in the newspaper and I decided
that this would be a perfect opportunity. I got interviewed and I
was hired. Once I started I took on a financial position. I had
no knowledge of accounting whatsoever, but it turned out to be
OK.
AG: When you moved to Northwoods, did you ever think that you will
become the city clerk of Northwoods?
DG: Like I mentioned
before, I grew up in Northwoods, and I had no idea that this would
ever happen to me.
AG: What are your aspirations in life?
DG: My short
terms goal is to get my degree over with from being certified
as a city clerk, and do something fulfulling. My long
term goal is to get into a career that is rewarding, like the career
I'm in now, and something rewarding with working with young people.
Denise has stated
that she absolutely loves Northwoods. It went through a lot changes
within the years she been here, it's very family-oriented,
and it has youth. She says that City Adminstrator Lillian Eunice
is definitely her mentor. She graduated from Normandy Senior High
in 1988. She went to Forest Park Community College and she transferred
to UMSL. Her first job was a six week program at Normandy job training
program.
She worked in a police department, as a camp counselor, and
in the Bonanza restaurant. Her first office job was a file
