Interview with Denise Griffin by Ashley

 

Ashley Gregory: What is your professional occupation?

Denise Griffin: What I do at the city hall, is that I 'm the city clerk.

AG: How and when did you decide that you wanted to become a city clerk?

DG: Well, I grew up in Northwoods,and I always knew that I would like to work here. One day I saw an ad in the newspaper and I decided that this would be a perfect opportunity. I got interviewed and I was hired. Once I started I took on a financial position. I had no knowledge of accounting whatsoever, but it turned out to be OK.

AG: When you moved to Northwoods, did you ever think that you will become the city clerk of Northwoods?

DG: Like I mentioned before, I grew up in Northwoods, and I had no idea that this would ever happen to me.

AG: What are your aspirations in life?

DG: My short terms goal is to get my degree over with from being certified as a city clerk, and do something fulfulling. My long term goal is to get into a career that is rewarding, like the career I'm in now, and something rewarding with working with young people.

Denise has stated that she absolutely loves Northwoods. It went through a lot changes within the years she been here, it's very family-oriented, and it has youth. She says that City Adminstrator Lillian Eunice is definitely her mentor. She graduated from Normandy Senior High in 1988. She went to Forest Park Community College and she transferred to UMSL. Her first job was a six week program at Normandy job training program. She worked in a police department, as a camp counselor, and in the Bonanza restaurant. Her first office job was a file clerk.
